Benefits of Apples

As the saying goes, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away!”

🍎Apples are among my favorites. I always try to shop local or buy organic. Apples have an edible skin so if you buy traditional apples, be sure to wash them well.

🍏Apples also have sugar. Not the kind in cakes and candies, and their fiber controls a sugar high surge, but the sugars metabolize quickly, and can leave you hungry soon after.

🍎To lessen the spike risk enjoy a little fat or protein with your fruit. Spread on some nut butter, add a slice of non-dairy cheese or mix diced pieces into non-dairy yogurt. The fat helps balance the sugar and keep you satiated longer.

🍏Did you ever saute apples? Cobblers and pies aside, you can add thin slices to a pan with a spray of avocado oil, a squeeze of lemon and a dash of cinnamon. Add those warm slices to crisp greens like endive or fennel or enjoy as an accompaniment to a lean protein.
